The next entry in developer Undead Labs’ open world horror series, State of Decay 3, was first announced nearly half a decade ago during the 2020’s Xbox Showcase. Since then, the studio has been quiet about the development of the title.
A new trailer was also released over two years ago for the title, however, the franchise’s fans have been waiting to hear more about it. Following the recent layoffs and cancellation of many games over the past few years, many were worried about the development of State of Decay 3.
Finally, after much waiting, there has finally been an update. During a recent interview with GamesRadar+, Xbox Game Studios lead Craig Duncan confirmed that State of Decay 3 development is going strong.
I have done a number of visits to that studio in the last six to eight months. I have sat and played the game with the team a bunch of times. It’s coming on really well. We’re very excited about the franchise and its potential.
While Duncan didn’t reveal much information about the title’s current state or a release date, he teased fans by stating that they will get to hear more about the title later this year.
So I will certainly see a lot more of it in the coming year.
It looks like 2026 is going to be an exciting year for State of Decay fans. Even if we don’t get our hands on the game, we might get a new trailer or even gameplay for the title. If we get lucky, we may even get an official release date announced later this year.
This is certainly an exciting time for the franchise’s fans. Stay tuned for more updates!
