At the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, we got a look at the first gameplay trailer of The Blood of Dawnwalker, an upcoming action RPG from the director of The Witcher 3. The new trailer gives us a better look at the game’s setting, story, and gameplay.
Developed by Rebel Wolves, a new studio made up of industry veterans, The Blood of Dawnwalker is a single-player, open- world, dark fantasy action RPG set in 14th century Europe filled with vampires and shadow creatures.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is planned to be the first chapter in a new saga, developed in partnership with Bandai Namco. The goal is to expand the story and world into future chapters. The game aims to deliver the same quality as The Witcher 3, but on a different scale.
The story takes place in 14th century Europe, where “bloody conflicts sweep the lands, and the Black Death comes for the survivors. It’s a moment of weakness – and that’s all they needed.”
You play as Coen, a young man turned into a Dawnwalker, forever treading the line between the world of day and the realm of night. You must fight for your humanity or embrace the cursed powers to save your family.
In the game, you experience two different gameplay loops that offer distinct abilities to choose from, mysteries to uncover, and various ways to achieve your goals. Experiment with different approaches and discover how the world reacts to your actions.
Coen can defy gravity, become a brutal force of nature, and use your supernatural skills as a vampire. Or raise your sword, and employ powerful magic to take on opponents as a human. Experiment and adapt as your form changes during the day and night; each has its strengths and weaknesses.
The Blood of Dawnwalker will launch for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with the release date yet to be announced.
