Our Next Horror Movie Commentary is for Resident Evil: Apocalypse!

With all the Resident Evil 3 hubbub going on right now, I have successfully tricked my fellow staffers into watching Resident Evil: Apocolypse with me for this month’s commentary! The second in the now six-film long Resident Evil motion picture saga, Apocolypse is one of the few that approaches being a real movie, and my personal favorite of the bunch. Loosely based on the plot of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, Apocolypse follows the previous films’ star Alice Abernathy during the Raccoon City outbreak — joined by game heroes Jill Valentine and Carlos Olivera, as well as a gaggle of characters they made up. Stalked by the deadly superweapon Nemesis and aided by a mysterious Umbrella executive desperate to rescue his daughter, the fate of Raccoon City is already a foregone conclusion — all they can hope for is to escape with their lives. The greatest effort any of the films ever made to adapt the source material, Apocolypse offers a mix of fun recreations, badass action, and one of the most competent scripts the series ever had. Hopefully, these statements won’t immediately end any and all credence I have left considering my other RE movie opinions.
