Silent Hill f is “Independent” from the Main Series and Perfect for New Players

Since its announcement, Silent Hill f has firmly established itself as separate from the mainline series in multiple ways. For example, the game takes place in a Japanese town in the 1960s, marking a distinct departure from earlier installments.

Now, Konami has confirmed more details about the game, stating in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that Silent Hill f is an independent work from the series and is a “perfect starting point for people who have never played any Silent Hill games before.”

The post also shares a brief story summary:

Hinako Shimizu’s daily life was that of an ordinary teenager. However, one day, the town is enveloped in fog and begins to change in disturbing ways.

Explore the transforming town, solve its mysteries, fight to protect yourself, and survive. Face the choices you cannot avoid, and find the courage to confront them. A beautiful and unsettling story of choices.

It’s important to note that other games in the series are also independent in terms of their stories, except for the first and third games. However, there are still connections based on the lore, locations, and recurring themes. Silent Hill f seems to be a much more dramatic break from the past, though it’s likely there will still be some connections.

Silent Hill fKonami also announced via the official Silent Hill X page that Silent Hill f is coming to AnimeExpo with a special guest panel featuring series Producer Motoi Okamoto, Scriptwriter Ryukishi07, and Composer Akira Yamaoka. The event will be held at the LA Convention Center on Friday, July 4, 2025, at 3:15 PM PDT / 6:15 PM EDT.

Silent Hill F will be released for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. A launch date has yet to be announced. Hopefully, more details will be revealed at the upcoming event.
