Resident Evil Zero Remake May Add Co-op Mode, New Leak Claims

Even though Resident Evil Requiem still has a long roadmap ahead, including planned DLC, the franchise is clearly not slowing down, as Capcom is already said to be working on future titles in the series.

According to recent leaks, one of those future projects is the long-rumored Resident Evil Zero remake, following reports that a Code Veronica remake is also in development. The original Resident Evil Zero stood out because it featured two protagonists, Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen, and allowed players to switch between them depending on the situation. Now, the remake may build on that concept by adding a major new feature: cooperative gameplay.

Insider Marcox shared new details on Twitter, stating that the project, reportedly under the codename “Chambers,” could include co-op without changing the core experience of the original game. He wrote, “In a technical leak from “Capcom ID” network, programming codes were spotted for the ‘Invite Friend for Co-op’ feature linked to the project codenamed ‘Chambers’.” This strongly suggests that the remake may support online co-op, while still keeping the classic single-player options for players who prefer the original style.

This possible addition fits naturally with the design of the first game, where players could already switch between Billy and Rebecca, control both characters at the same time, or let the AI manage one of them.

As for when fans might receive official confirmation, it may still take some time. Based on the rumored schedule, the Code Veronica remake may arrive in 2027, while Resident Evil Zero could follow in 2028. Until Capcom makes an official announcement, the only clear expectation is that more Resident Evil titles are planned for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC in the years ahead.
