Resident Evil Requiem Unveils Gripping New Trailer at Gamescom 2025

Resident Evil Requiem

Capcom unveiled a brand new trailer for Resident Evil Requiem during Gamescom 2025 today, offering fans their first look at the fate of an Outbreak series character and teasing the backstory of the franchise’s newest protagonist.

As we’ve previously noted, the game stars Grace Ashcroft, daughter of Resident Evil Outbreak’s Alyssa Ashcroft. Now working for the FBI decades after the destruction of Raccoon City, Grace is investigating her mother’s mysterious disappearance. The trailer begins with a flashback sequence showing Alyssa herself arriving home in her trademark red outfit.

Grace, still a child, is confronted with horror as a black-robed figure murders a neighbor and seemingly kills Alyssa in front of her. It’s a traumatizing reveal that grounds Grace’s motivation and, in addition, places Alyssa at the emotional heart of the story, though in true Resident Evil fashion, one wonders if Alyssa is truly dead.

The footage confirms that Grace had little understanding of Raccoon City’s tragedy as a child, making her investigation decades later all the more personal. While the trailer doesn’t show much gameplay, what stunned viewers, including myself, was the graphical fidelity. The title leverages RTX enhancements, including path-traced lighting, ray tracing, and DLSS 4 for jaw-dropping visual fidelity.

Rumors have previously swirled about Leon Kennedy and Alyssa appearing as playable characters. The trailer suggests Alyssa may play a larger part in the narrative than initially expected, which sounds promising. For longtime fans, this nod to the Outbreak games is especially exciting, as spin-off characters are rarely revisited in the mainline series.

With its emotionally charged story and next-gen visuals, as well as callbacks to corners of the franchise often left untouched, Resident Evil Requiem will hopefully prove to us as being one of the bolder horror outings in recent years.

The game is slated for release on February 27, 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. You can view the new Gamescom trailer below.
