Resident Evil 5 Gets a 4K Texture Mod Twice the Size of the Original Game

Resident Evil 5

Resident Evil 5 was one of the last games in the Resident Evil franchise released for PS3 and Xbox 360. It was developed specifically for those consoles, and this shows in its graphics. The characters were well-designed for that time, but the environments used low-quality textures, even in the PC version set to maximum settings.

The same thing happened with Resident Evil 6, which also came to Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The game had rather low-quality textures as well at the time, but later received a large mod that added 4K textures and greatly improved the graphical quality on PC.

Now, the modder Evgeshajk has released a new mod that adds 4K textures to Resident Evil 5. The mod is about 30 GB in size, which is double the original PC game’s 15 GB. The textures were enhanced using AI tools, and the difference shown in the video is clear — the visual quality improves significantly.

Not only have the ground and environment textures been improved, but the character textures look much better as well. The upgrade is so noticeable that it almost feels like a remastered version of the game.

This mod is highly recommended and might make you want to replay Resident Evil 5. In the video below, the author also used another mod that removes the game’s original color filter and improves color contrast. You can download the color mod here, and the texture mod here.

  • To make the texture mod work properly, you will need to patch the game file “re5dx9.exe” using the link provided on the mod’s download page.
