Phasmophobia to Leave Early Access in 2026 with ‘Horror 2.0’ Update; Sequel Not Ruled Out

Phasmophobia

Phasmophobia, the cooperative horror game that has seen considerable success in recent years has been in Early Access for a long time. However, it seems the developers are steadily working toward a “complete” version.

The game’s art director, Corey J. Dixon, spoke with IGN and revealed when we might expect to see the final version of Phasmophobia.

According to the interview, Phasmophobia will leave Early Access around the same time as the release of the “Horror 2.0” update. This update is already planned for 2026.

It’s worth noting that leaving Early Access does not mean the horror game will no longer receive support. Instead, it means the team will consider it a complete package. As a result, the game’s listed price will go up, since Early Access games are usually discounted.

“We definitely have plans for 1.0, probably in line with our Horror 2.0 update [slated for 2026] is where we feel the game is feature-complete,” Dixon said, continuing:

It doesn’t mean we’ll stop working on it — we still want map reworks and new maps and stuff in the future, so there’ll be more stuff for the game. But I think once the Horror 2.0 has been redone, which is the next thing we work on after the [2025’s] Player Update, the game will feel finished. Once that’s in, I think it will be in a good spot.

As for a specific release date, the dev team is hush hush, and will continue working until they are satisfied with the results. Looking further ahead, the developers believes a sequel could be made one day, but for now, they are not making any promises.
