New Call of Cthulhu game planned for 2017

Cthulhu

Everybody loves Cthulhu, or rather, everybody loves the story and design of Cthulhu. Few people would really want to meet the legendary, cosmic monstrosity face-to-face, but especially in gaming we have a fondness for H.P. Lovecraft’s most famous creation and the insanity it inspires. After countless cameos in titles like Eldritch and Scribblenauts, we’ll soon have an actual game set in the Cthulhu mythos again.

Focus Home Interactive is publishing this title, which will be developed by Cyanide Studios who are most famous for the Blood Bowl video game series and Styx: Master of Shadows. Cyanide has proven themselves in the past with excellent stealth and role-playing games, so unsurprisingly this Call of Cthulhu project will feature investigating, stealth, and RPG mechanics.

This isn’t the first time in recent memory that Focus Home has worked on the Cthulhu franchise. In 2014 they announced that work had started on a Cthulhu adventure game in cooperation with Frogwares, who have done a lot of work on the Sherlock Holmes adventure games. As far as I can tell, this just never took off, so now they are starting anew.

The excited CEO of Cyanide had the following to say in regards to the project:

We are happy that Focus entrusted us with the development of a videogame adaptation of the legendary RPG Call of Cthulhu. As long-time fans of the license, working with longtime partner publisher Focus Home Interactive on such an original and exciting project is, once again, a privilege. We hope to offer fans the game they’ve long been waiting for.

The game is set to release for both consoles and PC somewhere in 2017.
