Heavy metal and video games, “The Birdcage” is a project that spans two mediums

We have seen a few interactive movies and visual novels lately, but has somebody ever added gameplay to a music album outside of rhytm games? The Birdcage is both a music album and a video game in one, brought to use by veterans of both industries.

The idea is that the game is an exploration-heavy horror title with environments that are “ever-changing”. Players control a young girl called “Gitta”, whose life has been turned into a gritty reimagining of The Beauty and the Beast after her father drugged and sold her to cover a gambling debt. Players are able to explore the areas they visit, play mini-games and learn more about the plot, but certain points in the music track trigger events that suddenly change the world around the player. This means there is limited amount of time in a single session, but the goal is to intrigue players into coming back to find more side-quests and details that they missed the first time around.

The music is provided by members of several big-name bands and a lot of time was spend on finding the perfect developer to do the game-design for them. Eventually, the team settled on Amichai Naveh Marmor (Dead to Rights, Mortal Kombat, and Deus Ex: Human Revolution) and Leon Rosengarten. The game will run on Unreal Engine 4 and is currently seeking funding after an indiegogo campaign failed to meet the goals set by the team.
