After a thrilling debut trailer at Summer Game Fest, Techland isn’t letting up. The studio followed Friday’s announcement of Dying Light: The Beast with a full 30-minute gameplay walkthrough and a new developer blog, giving fans a much deeper look at the franchise’s darkest, most ambitious chapter yet.
The Beast picks up with a familiar name: Kyle Crane, who returns as the series’ protagonist after a decade of ominous silence. But Crane is no longer the man he was. Having escaped from a decade of experimentation, he’s now something…other. Part human, part zombie, and entirely volatile, Crane sets out through the decaying resort town of Castor Woods, an open-world area twisted by time and infection.
The new gameplay footage showcases all the things that made Dying Light iconic: adrenaline-pumping parkour, an ever-present day/night cycle, and, of course, the unpredictability of survival horror. Combat is more feral, and it seems the world is more reactive. And Crane is not just a survivor anymore, he’s a weapon. Off-road driving, co-op support for up to four players, and next-gen visuals intend to make this the most technically advanced entry in the franchise to date.
Alongside the footage, Franchise Director Tymon Smektała penned a dev blog titled “Save the Date, Survivors,” reflecting on the ten-year journey of Dying Light and Techland’s unwavering community. He calls The Beast their “most ambitious project ever,” a game shaped by both fan passion and internal reinvention.
Dying Light: The Beast launches August 22, 2025, for PC, PS5/PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S. You can pre-order now to get the ‘Hero of Harran’ bundle featuring a fan-service pack that resurrects beloved items from the franchise, including the Juggernaut outfit reimagined as the Ultimate Survivor Outfit.
