Dead Space-Inspired Horror Project Cancelled After Three Years, Concept Art Shows What Could Have Been

The gaming industry has been going through a particularly challenging period over the past several years, with many studios either being shut down or experiencing severe layoffs. The fact that AI-generated content has become increasingly common, has not helped matters.

One such studio is Firesprite Studios who is yet another casualty of the ongoing layoffs. The studio saw a layoff in 2024, which also led to the cancellation of the Twisted Metal battle royale title. While this was officially confirmed as cancelled, it seems there were more titles at the studio that never saw the light of day.

Sci-Fi Horror

A recent report from gaming site MP1st suggests that Sony cancelled two projects at Firesprite Studios. One was supposed to be a VR game in the Breaking Bad franchise, while the other was a new IP in the sci-fi horror genre, similar to Dead Space. The title was reportedly in development for three years, from 2018 to 2020, but never progressed past the prototype stage.

The report also revealed concept art that closely resembles the Dead Space franchise, featuring futuristic settings and similar monsters.

While there is no clear explanation for why the game was cancelled, the concept art shows the title had great potential but will sadly never see the light of day.
