Insider Gaming, the outlet led by reliable insider Tom Henderson, has learned that a new video game based on the Alien franchise is back in development after a period of pause.
According to reports, it is a single-player survival horror arcade where players must survive aboard an abandoned space station. They will have to avoid xenomorphs and spec ops units. Sources described it as “Shadow of Tomb Raider with xenomorphs.”
The game has reportedly been in production since at least 2020 and has gone through several name changes. It was first mentioned in 2022, when its code name was revealed as “Marathon,” among others that remain undisclosed to protect sources. The project was canceled but later revived.
It is currently being developed by Eidos Montréal, the studio behind Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, the latest Deus Ex games, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
As for gameplay, it combines combat, platforming, and puzzle-solving. Players will need to rely on stealth, resource management, and problem-solving skills, facing challenges such as repairing machinery and decoding systems.
Documents seen by the insider reveal at least three main characters. Aubrey, the protagonist, is an engineer who can use tools like grappling hooks and magnetic boots. Ryuzo is a new character who uses the space station as his personal fortress, possibly serving as an antagonist. Finally, there’s Ripley, who the team hopes will be portrayed by Sigourney Weaver, though only early discussions with the actress have taken place so far.
The game’s initial budget is below $75 million, though higher than the roughly $30 million estimated a few years ago. The release is expected in 2028 on all major platforms.
