E3 2014: Techland’s Dying Light and Hellraid surprise us in the best ways

Techland went to this year’s E3 with not one zombie game, but two. The zombie genre may be tiring some of you guys out by now, but the creators of Dead Island seem poised to release two more games featuring the undead, with Dying Light and Hellraid.

Dying Light, which feels like the spiritual successor to Dead Island, surpasses Techland and Deep Silver’s Island series while remaining familiar to existing fans. Weapons are weighty and customizable, zombie killing is great fun, and now there’s a large focus on terrain traversal with the implementation of parkour. Visually, Dying Light is stunning, with a day and night cycle that alters the game’s tone, turning it into a stealth-focused nailbiter. I left very impressed after my 20 minute demo and can’t wait to get my hands on the full game.

While we did not get hands-on time with Hellraid like we did with Dying Light, the prospect of playing “Skyrim meets Diablo” seems too good to pass up. Zack and I both agree that Hellraid looks interesting and hopefully it will deliver when its playable.

Check out our full E3 impressions video below of both games!
