Predatory animals in DayZ revealed

While many still consider Bohemia Interactive’s DayZ very much a PvP game, regardless of its vicious (and sometimes magically glitchy) zombies, the game aims to have a realistic world occupied by a variety of wildlife. We learned of predatory animals sometime ago, and this week the team has given us a first look at what DayZ‘s Chernarus map will be like for hunters and prey alike.

The first predatory animals introduced will be wolves who hunt in packs to secure themselves food, whether that be elk, cow, or a human player. The video below shows how the wolves move and think while stalking prey and to human presence. They’re not very friendly (although companion animals are planned too).

Along with the intro to predatory animals, DayZ has been updated to version 0.59 on stable branch, introducing new fixes and improvements, namely improved water effects and Ambient Occlusion thanks to the game’s DX 11 renderer. Oh, and the first helicopter and motorcycle have been show off too. Exciting times ahead in DayZ.
