A new Resident Evil movie has been in the works for a while, and recently it entered a key stage, suggesting it will be released later this year. As such, the anticipation around the movie is immense. Recently, reports indicated that the movie received extremely positive feedback during early test screenings.
However, Zach Cregger, the filmmaker behind Weapons who’s now working on Resident Evil has stated that he’s aware the franchise’s fans will crucify him if he tries to deviate from the lore. During a recent interview with The New York Times, Zach discussed his approach to the movie. He states that he wants to deliver something that offers the intensity of the Capcom games without delivering an already pre-existing story.
I love the idea of being pitted against a world that is hellbent on annihilating you. It just feels fun and I haven’t seen a movie that offers that sort of experience.
Cregger previously stated that he’s not trying to be obedient to the game canon lore, as he plans to work on a script that feels authentic more so to the overall experience of playing the games. Though not much is yet known about the Resident Evil movie, it’s best to look forward to the coming months as the film is expected to be released later this year.
