Konami has been bringing back some of its most popular game series, like Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid. Out of the two, Silent Hill has made the biggest return so far, with the Silent Hill 2 Remake, the newer title Silent Hill f, and the upcoming Silent Hill: Townfall.
According to series producer Motoi Okamoto, Konami announced all three games at the same time to show fans that it was serious about bringing Silent Hill back, not just with remakes or remasters.
Okamoto reflected on the decision, explaining on Twitter (thanks to Automaton Media): “Three years ago, in 2022, we announced three titles: Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill f, and Silent Hill: Townfall. We didn’t want to just announce a single remake to ‘test the waters.’”
Developing both a remake and an entirely new title at the same time naturally involved risks, but for Okamoto, the goal was to show clear commitment:
Only when a new game is announced can the future of a series be seen. Users won’t feel motivated to engage with an IP unless they can sense it has a future. If the company takes a wait-and-see approach, so will the players. The company needs to show how serious it is so that users can get genuinely excited. I think that’s only fair.
今から3年前、2022年に『サイレントヒル2』『サイレントヒルf』『サイレントヒルタウンフォール』の3本のタイトルを発表したけど、リメイク1本だけでの発表、いわゆる様子見リメイクはしたくなかったんですよね。… https://t.co/AXmbPVwPbt

In other news, Konatsu Kato, the voice actress for Hinako in Silent Hill f, said the role was so intense that she would often burst into tears and feel like she was losing her mind.
