Report: Resident Evil Code: Veronica Remake Ahead of Schedule, With Big Role for Wesker

According to well-known leaker Dusk Golem, the development of the Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake is going very well, with a quality level comparable to the highly praised Resident Evil 4 remake.

Dusk Golem wrote:

Code Veronica Remake is going super well from what I’ve heard, like RE:4-levels of good (which is funny since a lot of the same people). Going so well that it’s actually ahead of their internal schedule and they’re very confident in what they’re making.

The project is progressing so smoothly that it is ahead of its internal schedule, with the team showing strong confidence in the results. By contrast, Resident Evil 0 Remake was recently delayed after a development reboot late last year. Originally, RE0 was planned to come first, but now it looks much more likely that Code Veronica will be released before RE0.

Dusk Golem also explained that in 2020, the development of the Resident Evil 4 remake was shifted from M-Two, the original lead studio, to Capcom’s Division 1. Despite this major change, the game still released on schedule thanks to the team’s hard work.

The remake will not just be a graphical upgrade but will also feature notable character and story changes. Steve Burnside will still have a crush on Claire Redfield, but his character is being rewritten. Instead of being portrayed with a perverse attitude, he will be more innocent, though still abrasive, overly curious, and often unaware of personal boundaries.

One of the major gameplay changes involves boss fights: Chris will now fight Wesker directly, while Wesker’s original battle with Alexia will no longer take place. Albert Wesker’s role will also be expanded. The secret organization H.C.F. has been upgraded to a main plot point, meaning more scenes with Wesker and the group.

The game is being directed by Yasuhiro Anpo and Kazunori Kadoi, the same duo who directed the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 remakes, both of which were very well received.

Finally, Dusk Golem ended his comments by stating that he will not answer further Code Veronica questions until after the release of Resident Evil 9, in order to avoid spoiling too much too early.
