Resident Evil 0 Remake Rumored with New Casting, Expanded Storyline

Resident Evil 0

Following the commercial and critical success of the remakes of Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4, Capcom is reportedly moving forward with revisiting more classics from the Resident Evil series.

Among fan favorites, Resident Evil Code Veronica and Resident Evil 0 have long been at the top of the community’s remake wishlist. Now, reliable sources confirm that a Resident Evil 0 Remake is officially in development, under the internal codename “Project Chamber.”

According to new details, Resident Evil 0 Remake has been in production for several years and will feature expanded plot elements, updated visuals, and a fully recast lineup of performers. Performance capture is being handled by Beyond Capture Studios, the same team that collaborated with Capcom on Resident Evil 4 Remake and Street Fighter 6.

One allegedly confirmed actor is Jon McLaren, known for portraying Star-Lord in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (2021) and appearing in Far Cry 5. McLaren is reportedly taking on a lead role in Project Chamber, almost certainly as Billy Coen. The remake will include fresh narrative material, including an expanded opening aboard the Ecliptic Express and new supporting characters.

The story will largely follow the same premise, with STARS medic Rebecca and escaped convict Billy struggling to survive in the aftermath of a viral outbreak. One supposed example involves an expanded subplot featuring the train conductor, who now plays a direct role earlier on in the story before turning against Rebecca. Later scenes suggest new characters tied to the broader Resident Evil lore.

While Resident Evil 0 Remake remains some time away, insider reports suggest Code Veronica Remake will launch first, potentially targeting early 2027. Code Veronica revisits Claire Redfield’s desperate search for her brother Chris on Rockfort Island and Antarctica, a story many fans consider essential to the main series continuity.

Insiders suggest this remake will introduce a more cinematic structure, refined combat similar to Resident Evil 4 Remake, and potentially playable sequences from multiple perspectives, including Albert Wesker’s.

Following Code Veronica Remake, Capcom is rumored to release Resident Evil 0 Remake in 2028, offering players a complete bridge between Resident Evil Requiem, the next mainline entry likely featuring an older Leon Kennedy, and the remade classics that ushered in a modern renaissance for the franchise.
