Publisher DOJO System and U.S.-based independent developer FYRE Games have announced that Project Songbird, a cinematic first-person psychological horror experience created by Conner Rush, will launch on March 26, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
So far, 2026 has been a massive year for indie horror, as developers are revolutionising the genre by offering a more personal experience and making players feel tension through immersive narratives, diverse environments, and innovative uses of audio. Project Songbird looks to be another quality entry in the genre.
The game follows Dakota, a successful musician facing a creative block. Seeking inspiration, he retreats to an isolated cabin deep in the Appalachian wilderness. Soon after, unsettling and disturbing events begin to unfold. Over the course of its roughly 4–5-hour playtime, the game explores themes of isolation, creative struggle, and the fragile boundary between internal and external reality.
Unlike traditional horror games that rely on jump scares or startling noises to create terror, Project Songbird offers players a restrained, intentional, and above all, emotional experience.
Through deliberate pacing, restrained sound design, and carefully composed environments, the game builds a form of tension that feels intimate, personal, and difficult to shake. It trusts silence, creating an experience that lingers well beyond the screen.
