April Fools’: New Silent Hill Game Will Feature Multiple Timelines, Including a “Cyberpunk” and “Frontier/covered Wagon” Era

The Silent Hill franchise has recently received a lot of positive feedback from fans, especially with the release of the Silent Hill 2 Remake and Silent Hill f. While it was officially confirmed last year that the franchise would see a new entry each year, that may no longer be the case.

We had the opportunity to speak with the developers working on the next Silent Hill game, and they revealed that development isn’t going well and has entered an unclear phase. The story for this new installment will be quite convoluted, which has led the developers to take their time crafting it.

The team shared that they are working with multiple overlapping timelines for the next entry, including a futuristic “Cyberpunk-type” timeline, a “frontier/covered wagon” timeline, and a timeline that “merges elements and characters from the Western-developed titles.”

They are currently engaged in internal discussions about which version of the story should be considered canon. This indicates that the title is struggling through the internal review phase, and the team is replaying the game to fully grasp it before moving on to the next stage. They also revealed that they have been conducting several early playtests with “low-tier horror game influencers” to gauge how well hardcore teenage fans will respond to the game.

Despite everything, the developers remain excited and mostly motivated to continue working on the latest entry of this iconic franchise. They hope to overcome these hurdles and eventually progress to the next stage of development.

Although the future of the title remains uncertain, we are hopeful we will hear some positive updates soon. Incorporating new elements like wildly incompatible timelines and 14-year-old gameplay mechanics could be fun if done well.
