SUFFOCATE, Taiwanese Survival Horror, Launches October 23 on Steam

Suffocate

Independent Taiwanese developer Naughty Cow has announced that its upcoming survival horror title, SUFFOCATE, will release worldwide on October 23 at 4:00 a.m. EDT via Steam. Accompanying the announcement, the studio dropped a new launch trailer that teases a disturbing mix of family tragedy, cult rituals, and the darker corners of human nature.

Set in modern-day Taiwan, SUFFOCATE is a realistic 3D first-person survival horror game that plunges players into a web of greed, faith, and psychological decay. The narrative unfolds through multiple perspectives, focusing on a once-happy family whose lives spiral into chaos after a mysterious cult enters their world.

Players will uncover the truth by exploring the Lin family’s lavish 1980s-style home, modeled after real celebrity villas on Yangming Mountain and Beitou, while evading vengeful spirits that may be closer to home than they appear.

Gameplay blends stealth, parkour, and puzzle-solving, challenging players to stay one step ahead of relentless supernatural forces. Violence, gore, and adult themes feature prominently, giving players a chance to be intrigued by a newer depiction of Taiwanese horror.

Naughty Cow cites both classic horror games and real-world events, including the “Snails Without Shells” movement and the Liu Pang-yu murder case, as key inspirations for its story. The studio’s aim is to be “amplifying human senses to the extreme, immersing players in a tense and thrilling atmosphere — and, of course, conquering your fears and coming out alive.”

SUFFOCATE launches October 23 exclusively on Steam.
