EXCLUSIVE: Resident Evil Requiem Might Not Be What You Think it Is (Video)

Resident Evil Requiem

After our previous video covering Resident Evil Requiem, we are expanding on what we know regarding the ninth mainline entry in the franchise so far. The game celebrated a successful demo launch at Gamescom 2025, featuring both first- and third-person perspectives, with a return to horror roots by featuring a main character in Grace Ashcroft.

Grace, the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from the classic Resident Evil Outbreak, watched her mother seemingly die in front of her eyes at the hands of a hooded attacker. In classic Resident Evil fashion, however, there is more than meets the eye.

Our second video covering Requiem discusses why the game is not just a “walking simulator” featuring a stalker-type monster chasing Grace, an opinion echoed by certain groups of fans. The game, and Capcom, seems to be gearing up to surprise us with a titular character many have been hoping to see: Leon S. Kennedy, who needs no introduction.

Many discussions and speculations were had behind closed doors at Gamescom 2025, but considering how game director Kōshi Nakanishi has treated his previous series titles, our new video discusses further speculation. Nakanishi’s style involves multiple timelines in Resident Evil 7 Biohazard and Resident Evil Revelations, with multiple playable characters.

It is possible the monster stalking Grace is her mother, Alyssa, and that the second timeline takes place a decade after Alyssa’s death. And with Nakanishi’s style of involving multiple playable characters, Leon S. Kennedy may reveal himself as part of the character roster. What we have seen so far in the demo is potentially a diversionary tactic.

Similar to Biohazard, Requiem’s playable demo is likely a small excerpt of the final game and will feature sections with multiple playable characters.
