Dying Light: The Beast made a confident debut on Steam, where the game quickly attracted nearly 90,000 concurrent players at launch. Interest was high even before release, with more than one million users adding the title to their wishlists. Reviews on the platform are currently “very positive,” and the game holds a score of 78 on Metacritic.
The game was first planned as DLC but eventually turned into a full standalone game. Even though the launch numbers were lower than the previous part, the result is still good for a single-player title. Techland said that if even half of the people who added it to their wishlist bought the game, the player base would grow a lot.
At the time of writing, Steam recorded a peak of 89,927 players, with most reviews rating the latest entry above average. For the franchise, Metacritic has traditionally been stricter: the first part received a score of 74 despite its fan popularity, making The Beast the highest-rated entry in the series so far.
The original Dying Light once reached a peak of 45,000 players, while the sequel exceeded 250,000. This places The Beast in the middle, though numbers are expected to rise over the weekend. Since it launched on a Thursday, the chances are high for it to surpass Dying Light 2 in concurrent players.
