Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse Announced, Due Out This Year

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse

Now that the 40th Anniversary of the Castlevania series is upon us in 2026, Konami is starting to roll out some new content for the series for the first time in quite a while. In recent years, we haven’t gotten much from the series besides the shoddy mobile game, Grimoire of Souls, as well as a DLC collaboration with Dead Cells and some collections/remakes, but now the publisher has announced the first truly new game in twelve years, with Belmont’s Curse.

The game is being developed by the Motion Twin, the team behind the aforementioned Dead Cells, which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise since they had their collaborative Castlevania expansion for the game launch in 2023 and had already established a relationship with Konami. The art style looks relatively close to Dead Cells, aside from doubling down a bit more on the classic Castlevania gothic architecture aesthetics, and you’ll be playing as the successor to Trevor Belmont, set 23 years after the events of Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse.

They announced the gameplay will feature classic whip style gameplay that the series is known for, as Trevor’s successor uses Trevor’s whip to traverse the environments and slay his foes, as well as more modern Castlevania exploration and puzzles, instead of the classic early series gameplay. The game will be launching on all the modern platforms when it’s released later this year.

Konami also announced this is just the first of many more announcements coming for the series this year, all in celebration of this anniversary, and also revealed the new logo for this anniversary project, as seen above.
