Capcom has released four classic titles from its catalog on Steam. The original Resident Evil trilogy and the RPG Breath of Fire IV have now made the move from GOG to Valve’s store, similar to what previously happened with Dino Crisis 1 and 2.
In all of these cases, GOG’s game preservation team was responsible for making the necessary adjustments so the classic versions could run properly on modern PCs. This included fixing compatibility issues, adding support for modern controllers, and offering extra rendering options.
The original Resident Evil from 1996 arrived on GOG in June 2024, followed by Resident Evil 2 (1998) in August and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (1999) in September of the same year. Breath of Fire IV (2000), meanwhile, was added to GOG in April 2025.
While GOG sells all of these titles without digital protection (DRM), the Steam versions include the controversial Enigma DRM. This is the same DRM that was previously added and later removed from Resident Evil 4 remake due to its significant negative impact on performance.
Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, and Breath of Fire IV are now available on Steam with a 50% launch discount, priced at $4.99 until April 15.
