The original Resident Evil may return in the future with a new remake, according to a well-known insider of the series. The first game was released in 1996 and already received a remake in 2002, which was later remastered in 2015.
Dusk Golem, a regular source of Resident Evil leaks, had previously denied that Capcom was working on a remake of the first game. He had insisted that the next titles in the series after Resident Evil Requiem would be a remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica, followed by a remake of Resident Evil 0.
Now, however, the insider says that Resident Evil 1 is getting remade and that production has already started. He also explains that it will take years before fans see it. A project of this scale could arrive around 2030. Before that, the two previously mentioned remakes and possibly an original new entry, such as a potential Resident Evil 10, would likely be released.
Dusk also shared his thoughts about the absence of the Spencer Mansion in Resident Evil Requiem, which is partly set in Raccoon City. He believes its removal may have been intentional. In a post on X, he suggested that including the mansion in Requiem, then revisiting a similar setting in Code: Veronica Remake, and later returning to it again in a new remake of Resident Evil, could make it feel less special due to repetition in a short period of time.
The 2002 remake for GameCube was widely praised, but it used pre-rendered backgrounds similar to the 32-bit era games. This time, Capcom could fully recreate the Spencer Mansion in 3D using the RE Engine. The company might also choose different camera options, such as the first- and third-person switching system seen in Resident Evil Requiem.
Right now, all of this is just a rumor, so it should be taken with a pinch of salt. Once we get more information, we’ll be sure to keep you updated here at Rely on Horror.
