Even Isaac Clarke can’t believe how low the prices are for this sale! Amazon and Steam are cutting the price by 75%, which means you can get both games on PC for a low price of $10.

Each game is going to be sold at $5 each on Amazon.com for Digital Download or you can buy a bundle of both games for $10 on Steam. This deal will save you about 30$ in the long run so if you have been dying to get these games at a good sale I don’t think there is any other time to get them.

If you are into gripping atmosphere and a game that’s going to scare the hell out of you I’d say your money is already spent and is just a few clicks away. Act now and get it before the sale ends there is no more than a day left to own these two masterpieces!

EA is continuing the theme of generosity they established just prior to the Christmas holiday. If you’re an Xbox owner, you can snag the Dead Space 2 DLC: Severed for only 280 points, or $3.00 if you don’t speak point-ese.

There’s also a number of other DLC on sale this week too, including Arrival for Mass Effect 2.

Never heard of Dead Space 2′s DLC?

Gabe Weller tries desperately to reach his wife as his security patrol in the titan Mines falls apart.

Okay, so maybe that doesn’t exactly tell you everything that you wanted to know, but you can always rely on us for a solid review.

EA has something special for you too.
Dead Space now available on Android, on sale in Apple’s App Store is a post from: Rely on Horror

While the downloadable title has been available for Apple’s iDevices for quite some time now, the mobile Dead Space is now available for Android. Isaac’s touch-screen affair is available in the Android Market for $6.99.

However, there’s a caveat – it’s not compatible with many phone models. For instance, Samsung Galaxy S phones are not compatible (meaning yours truly won’t be playing). So if you’ve got an Android device, head over to the Android Market and see if your device is compatible.

So what if you’re currently rocking an iDevice? Electronic Arts is hosting a mega sale in the App Store, with most of its apps available for 99 cents, including Dead Space. Did you ask Santa for an iPod Touch of iPhone this year? EA’s titles will still be discounted until the new year, meaning you can bask in the glory of touch-screen dismemberment come Christmas morn.

Happy Holidays indeed.

EA doesn’t seem too happy about owning the spectacular Dead Space series. They want more sales, and they want them now.

Speaking to Kotaku, an insider told them of EA’s plans to branch out the Dead Space series into new genres in hopes to increase sales. EA plans to make a Dead Space FPS, an Uncharted-like game and a Dead Space flight game…I’m not sure how popular flight games are these days, but sure.

The insider told of a management shift that almost killed the production of Dead Space 3. You know, the one we actually really want.

More details on Dead Space 3 have been leaked to Kotaku and they’re the very same details that was leaked not too long ago to Siliconera. The third entry is said to bring Isaac to the frozen planet of Tau Volantis. The game is also said to be completely co-op and be the end of the Isaac Clarke trilogy.

It seems like EA intends to change the Dead Space series for good after the third game is released. I am a big fan of Extraction, but officially turning the series into something it’s not is disappointing. Dead Space is a great example of modern Survival Horror. It brought back that classic genre to modern consoles, and now it seems that EA wants to drop that in favor of more mainstream genres. I wouldn’t be all too bothered if these planned titles were intended to be side games, but according to Kotaku’s source, the series is changing for good.

The Survival Horror genre is still a very niche one. Thankfully, we still have true-to-form titles to look forward to. AMY, Resident Evil: Revelations and Silent Hill: Downpour should fix the hole in my heart. I will miss you Dead Space.

There isn’t a person here who will say that being a hardcore gamer is an inexpensive hobby. Consoles, handhelds, heavy-duty PC rig (which can be used for things other than gaming of course), internet connection, Xbox Live pass, PSN+ and last but not least, the games themselves. By itself, not all that big of a dent in the pocketbook, but if you’ve grown beyond the phase where you require more than games to function in society, or you have other people to take care of, things tend to get pretty tight when feeding the habit.

You don’t need to be an accountant to figure out that buying every game that piques your interest probably isn’t the best move financially. The ones you’re not so sure about, the ones you’ve read are only a few hours long, the ones with zero multiplayer or little replay value – it’s just not a very sound investment. So that really left the cash-strapped gamer with a few options, all which have been perfectly A-OK until now, apparently.

The first of which is rental options. The friendly neighbourhood video rental/game rental store was almost a staple of every community. Unfortunately, business has been steadily declining on this avenue. With both Movie Gallery in bankruptcy and Blockbuster in receivership, it would seem that brick and mortar game/movie rental stores are a thing of the past.

I probably was a big part of the problem…

If you had friends with deep pockets, you could always essentially leech off their good gaming time by hanging out with them…all the time. Or, you could just borrow it when they were finished it. Or if they were the loner type, they’d let you borrow it before they even finished it.

Regardless of your methods of getting used games secondhand the PERFECTLY LEGAL route, the industry is looking to make you feel like you’re a criminal. Robbing the publishers and the developers of their hardworking cash using seedy, underhanded methods.

And the modus operandi of all of this thievery?! Secondhand gaming.

Yarr, would ye like to place a pre-order?

Ahh, Gamestop. Gamers loooooove to rag on your staff almost as much as we love to peruse your used game selection. For the budget conscience gamer looking for a price without having to meet a stranger for what arguably resembles a drug deal, Gamestop (or EBgames, or Best Buy, or Wherever) is the place to be. We may disagree with some of their prices, but we’ll always go back. I use Gamestop frequently in this article, but I’m really referring to many different used game stores.

Used game sales bring in an estimated $2 billion annually. That’s $2 billion dollars that the publishers aren’t getting and those publishers have a serious problem with that. But when you really think about it, that’s small potatoes when you consider how much money the industry brings in, and the fact that there will always be people who will buy new over used.

There’s been a growing trend to push gamers away from the second-hand game market. It seems noble enough – after all, publishers are just trying to keep their struggling companies afloat, right?

They can’t even afford safes for their cash

Well let’s set the scene with an example: Dead Space 2. If you bought Dead Space 2 pre-owned one week after its initial release, you might have saved about $5 or $6 off the full price – for only 75% of the game (depending how much stock you put in Dead Space 2′s multiplayer). That is, unless you want to pay another $10 for EA’s online pass which only works for one game. So EA has earned (gross earnings, not net) $10 more than the full price of that game for only 1 copy sold. We’re making a broad assumption that the markup value for new games is relatively low, as well.

Get ready to see more of this…a lot more of this.

I may be making another broad assumption here, but no other industry that I am aware of works this way regarding the second-hand market. When I purchased my car, I paid the government taxes (…ugh) and licensing fees but I didn’t pay GM a royalty fee for driving around in an Oldsmobile so I could use the stereo. If I go to the thrift store and pick up a pair of second-hand slacks, Aeropostale isn’t looking for a “Pants in Public Places” fee.

$50 a year for this?! …Eh…

So why has being a gamer suddenly become so goddamned expensive? If publishers and devs want to spur on new game sales with free DLC – then I’m all for it. But when they want to start treating me like I’m a pirate because I don’t happen to be the first owner of a game (or in some games’ case even if I am) I have an issue with that. Especially when numerous sources state that used games spur future new game sales and whenever I go into EB Games – Canada’s Gamestop – it’s not as if the shelves are full of new games and empty of used. There are a millions of people out there who would rather buy new over used, and there always will be.

What does this have to do with horror games? Well this kind of thing sets a dangerous precedent. If EA can get away with it, what’s stopping Capcom from doing this with Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, or Deep Silver from doing it with Dead Island? Every game that has an online component would be fair game for this practice. Your game doesn’t have an online component? Maybe this will change to disabling Trophies or Achievements unless you enter the $5 activation code. Or have our games loaded with advertisements?

PRESS X REPEATEDLY! OR CLICK HERE FOR FREE OFFER!!!!!!

This doesn’t only affect used game sales, it will also affects rental services like Gamefly and our friend Jimmy who we’ve been leeching games off of since the third grade. Pay to play…and then pay again for the other half of the game.

So why don’t Microsoft and Sony and Nintendo offer us a little bit of reprieve? Bundle in an “online pass” with their online service and let EA and Capcom go after the companies who can more often than not afford it? PSN is free, but PSN+ should include these online passes, like Gold. Maybe Nintendo’s next console will have a more in-depth online component?

Furthermore, it publishers have such a problem with used game sales, a core component of Gamestop’s revenue, why don’t the these companies work together to negotiate an agreement? A percentage of the used game sale profit goes back to the publisher, and that percentage is based on how old the game is? I honestly can’t see Gamestop doing that, but it would definitely help foster relations between the companies, wouldn’t you agree?

Sometimes you don’t even have to be looking in the same direction to work as a team

It’s oftentimes not so much about not being able to afford it, but the concept of being treated like criminals, and then nickel and dimed by doing something perfectly legal. We’re not stealing, we’re not pirating, yet somehow we’re still made to feel like thieves.

So what do you think? Do you buy used games? Will you still buy used games or has this practice (setting the precedent for the future) of online passes turned you off of it?

According to sales figures provided by Joystiq, Shadows of the Damned is not selling all too well. The Suda-Mikami collaboration project has sold around 24,000 copies in its opening month. The sales figures come from NPD, and covers both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 release. That is just unfortunate.

While many horror fans expected something horrifically frightening from the collaboration, Shadows of the Damned ended up being a tongue-in-cheek action horror title with silly humor. That doesn’t mean it ended up being a bad game. We enjoyed it, and respect its absurdity. It’s a shame interesting games like this fall under the radar. While the game had its faults, I for one would love to see a sequel filled with improvements. Hopefully this won’t scare EA away from pursuing a sequel.

Shadows of the Damned started as a mystery project named Kurayami, then later transformed into what we have now. Originally a survival horror game, Shadows of The Damned became punk inspired action horror. I know, you were expecting me to lament on how much I wanted a really scary game. Well, no, because I loved this game to bits.

Damned follows the tale of Garcia Hotspur. This Mexican demon hunter loves nothing more in life than his girlfriend Paula and Spanish swears. After the king of the underworld kidnaps Paula as payback to Garcia for killing so many of his minions, Garcia sets himself on a journey into hell to save her. Damned’s story is a simple one that doesn’t need much explanation nor thought. Garcia loves his girlfriend, and he’s going into hell to save her. Think Dante’s Inferno, but much more interesting.

Garcia is a punk biker that perspires machismo. His attitude is all about proving that he’s the top demon hunter, and stronger than any “pendejo” demon. His attitude, while tough, changes when he sees Paula in distress. He may be angry and tough, but he has a soft spot for his blond beauty. The later parts of the game really stress their relationship and I found myself feeling for Garcia more so than when the game started.

Garcia is joined by his former demon pal, Johnson. Johnson, like any floating skull loves dick jokes. Did I mention that this game’s humor is extremely rude and immature? If you’re the kind of person who can lower their posh sensibilities of humor just to have fun, then you will appreciate Damned’s jokes. The game doesn’t take itself seriously all the time, but when it does, there is a nice contrast and balance.

Damned plays over the shoulder in a similar fashion to Resident Evil 4. The aiming is a bit loose, but much better than I had expected. Johnson morphs into any tool or weapon that the situation calls for. Garcia uses the traditional pistol, machine gun and shotgun load out. Each weapon evolves over the course of the story and can be upgraded. Melee attacks can also be used, but it feels a bit poorly designed. I had more fun using stun attacks than using my torch like a bat. Sure, the torch may mainly be used as a last resort, but the game was fairly easy. I ended up using it to dispatch enemies to give myself more of a challenge.

The underworld is filled with a wide variety of demons. Unlike other versions of hell that I’ve seen, Damned’s underworld resembles the real world. There’s a folk town, villages, and even a fake Vegas. There is also a tinge of Mexican culture.

The art direction is fantastic. Not only are the levels nicely created, but the game’s graphic style really adds some flair; the color palette is a real treat. In an industry where dark brown and gray rules the color spectrum of most games, Damned really sticks out. Each area is illuminated in pleasing colors tones and mixtures. While the game puts players in dark locations, the colors shown remain vibrant.

While I loved the game’s story and atmosphere, I felt that it could have been a bit more unrestrained. Level design made Damned fairly linear, and exploration was brought down to an extreme minimum. I felt like this was a disservice to the visual style. I wanted to see more of this world, but instead the game confines you to a point A too B system with the occasional short path hiding items. I also felt like Johnson’s role could have been stronger. He can transform into numerous tools for Garcia, but he did so only a few times during the game. The game starts with Johnson becoming a motorcycle for Garcia, but this never happens again. I would have loved to have more Johnson specific scenes. As I have mentioned before, Melee combat was a weak and limited too the point of not really caring about upgrading it or using it.

Damned is a fully functional title rich with atmosphere and personality, but some some fundamental issues held it back from being magnifico. I really enjoyed this game, and upon completion I was eager to play again. Yet once the game is over, nothing more than a new difficulty is unlocked. There are no extras nor “New Game +”. A game like this would thrive with bonus content. But in the end, once the campaign is completed no new experiences will be found. Damned is full charm, but lacking in long lasting appeal.

Shadows of the Damned releases tomorrow, and like any game, a launch trailer has been released to give us one last look before we get our hands on it. The trailer is a bit more serious than the last and shows off some new scenes.

I for one can’t wait to play as a cheesy-punk-Mexican demon hunter. A Robert Rodriguez style interpretation of Dante’s Inferno sounds great. I know it’ll deliver. Look for our review sometime soon!
