Upcoming Silent Hill games re-dated

It seems that Konami has changed their minds about the releases dates for their Silent Hill games at the very last minute. Even though we were just given release date information for Silent Hill Downpour last week, we now have a new date for the latest entry in the series. Hold on, don’t freak out just yet, Silent Hill Downpour has been pushed by just a week from its original March 6th date. Downpour will now officially arrive on March 13th; for real this time.

Unfortunately, the Silent Hill HD Collection has also been delayed from its original release of January 24th. This is very unfortunate, because I was hoping to spend some time maxing out the achievements in both Silent Hill 2 and 3 this month. The new date for the HD Collection is March 6th. Delays hurt, but hopefully it’s for the greater good. In this case, the game’s level of polish.

Lastly, Silent Hill Book of Memories, the Playstation Vita spinoff title, will release March 27th. This no longer puts it in the launch window of the Playstation Vita. If my time with the game is any indication of its level of completion, then by all means delay it, Konami. Nothing worse than an unpolished game.

Well, there you have it. Just like that we now have the–hopefully–final release dates for the three upcoming Silent Hill games. Hell, I certainly hope so! March 13th is my birthday; the last time a high profile horror series released on my birthday was Resident Evil 5, wait… I hope that’s not a bad omen.

KONAMI RELEASES NEW SCREENSHOTS AND RELEASE DATES FOR SILENT HILL FRANCHISE

Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc., today announced the definitive release dates for the three 2012 Silent Hill franchise titles: Silent Hill HD Collection, Silent Hill Downpour and Silent Hill Book of Memories. Available nationwide this March fans can experience the horror and thrill that they’ve come to love while embarking on exciting new quests and challenges.

Silent Hill HD Collection: March 6.
Silent Hill HD Collection serves as a tribute to the core Silent Hill fans by taking the most famous games of the series, Silent Hill 2 & 3, and re-mastering them in high-definition graphics and adding new voiceovers.

Silent Hill Downpour: March 13.
Silent Hill Downpour follows the story of Murphy Pendleton, a convicted felon, who finds himself trapped in Silent Hill after his prison transport bus crashes. Silent Hill Downpour is the most expansive Silent Hill to date, as players can embark on side missions, explore the town and piece more of the mystery of Silent Hill together.

Silent Hill Book of Memories: March 27
Available exclusively for the brand new PlayStation®Vita handheld device, Book of Memories is an all-new game in the Silent Hill series, with a unique premise and storyline. The story begins with a strange book that is received; inside that book is your entire life story and all of your memories. You discover that by altering what’s written you can actually change the past. You can write your own ideal history. And for the first time ever in a Silent Hill game, it will support multiplayer, so friends can share in the fright in a co-op mode.

Konami sure knows how to torture us…

Konami …. Kooonami …. KOOOONAMI XD

Hopefully, this will be the last announcement. Maybe not too keen on Book of Memories until its polished. But the collection and Downpour, I’ll wait for you … My darlings XD

I’ve asked this in other comments and no one has responded. Does anyone know why konami isn”t releasing Silent hill 4 with the HD collection? Makes sense they are all the japan made games and featured on ps2.

    • Shane

they probably have something else planned. maybe something to go with a HD version of home coming or shattered memories. personally i was hoping for the first to be re-released. tho it was made for the PS1.. guess i have no hope for that one

  • Brad

    @Samuel

Because Konami said they picked the ones that were the most successful.

  • Levito

Am I the only that thinks that they’re creating competition for themselves? Most people will probably only choose 1 of the three games for the month.

  • Patrick

Sad, since SH4 was my favorite.

  • allen

I think you will be redeemed CJ. Downpour is gunna be amazing. I just know it!

Konami’s not torturing us. Their sales however won’t be as strong. There’s too many big hit games coming out in March. And releasing three SH games in the same month will divide sales between them.

I can only guess that these delays are to polish the products up, because at this rate only the die hard fans will be the ones to buy each SH game on their launch dates this March.

It doesn’t speak well for their products if they have to bunch them up together so closely as opposed to a month apart. After the discussion of bringing in as many gamers to the series as they could (bringing classic games to HD, a new sequel and a portable vita experience) I only anticipate the fans themselves as the ones who will pick these up the next couple of months.

I can already tell you personally that I’ve got Revelations, Operation Raccoon City and Mass Effect 3 to tie over my game time for the next couple of months. There’s also other big games like Max Payne 3 coming around that time too. I was hoping to fit Downpour into that, but it’s not looking very likely unfortunately.

This blows. Releasing 3 silent hill games in one of the busiest months in terms of release dates? they really shot themselves in the foot on this one. This better be the last change in the release date. They keep doing this and while I appreciate them taking the time to finish something, there’s a fine line where these release date changes create a lot of buzz behind it to where people start lose interest as it keeps getting changed.

and to be fair I have started to lose interest as I’m excited for Resident evil Operation raccoon city in March.

I like what i see of silent hill HD (not the voices), Silent hill downpour too. But what in the **** is that vita thing? That is just another discrase of a silent hill. Top town view? Not SH.

  • Smiley

It’s a spin off. You shouldn’t play it and expect something like Downpour.

But it’s not three games releasing. HD collection includes two games. So really you have four games in March. Unless you’re a die hard fan with a lot of money I’m going to assume gamers would be burnt out by all the SH content by then. I really hope Konami thought this through.

  • Ross Ingram

I’m lookig forward to all of them. I think I will enjoy Book of Memories because it is different. The only reason I bought a PSP at launch was Metal Gear ACID. I really enjoyed the short lived ACID series. Hopefully the same happens with SH:BoM.

  • Ross Ingram

Aaah not the short lived part. The enjoyment part.

  • Leila

Well, you guys jumped the gun.

    • http://www.relyonhorror.com CJ Melendez

Leila, we announced the release date Konami gave us at a preview event. It seems like they might have jumped the gun, actually.

  • Steven Bayne

WOW! 3 Silent Hill games in 1 month. Just the sound of that is awesome. I just hope that they all live up to everyones expectations. I’m a fanboy though,so of course they will live up to my expectations. :)

    European Dates most probably;

    HD Collection – March 9th
    Downpour – March 16th
Book of Memories – March 30th

As games are usually released on Fridays here.

I hope the dates stick this time but as another user has said it was a terrible idea to release all 3 games in March.

I personally will be getting SSX, SH: HD Collection, Max Payne 3, Mass Effect 3 & RE: ORC before I get Downpour. Gonna be poor enough that month!
