The Vanishing of Ethan Carter making the switch to Unreal 4

The Astronauts’ The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is making its way to the PS4 and to get a little bit of an inside story of the switch, Creative Director Adrian Chmielarz discusses some production elements. Chmielarz comments on the game’s change from Unreal Engine 3 to Unreal Engine 4 and what that means for fans. He is even confident in saying this PS4 version is better than the original PC version – so much so that they will be re-releasing it on PC so that everyone can benefit from the improvements.

He also notes that he thinks jump-scares are a cheap way to induce terror in the player. I share that sentiment completely and welcome any element in horror that works to get its scares. Chmielarz makes it clear he is dedicated to giving the best horror experience ever. “…we do not guide you in this game. There is this really brutal warning in the opening of the game: this game is a narrative experience that does not hold your hand.”

The jump from PC to PS4 should be a smooth one and it is looking like it will get the best treatment to make the experience whole. Chmielarz estimates that after all is said and done, it should be about 3-4 more months to get it out. Check out the whole interview below!
