The Sacrifice Release Date Announced

Valve has announced the release date for The L4D 1 and L4D2 DLC – The Sacrifice.  Fans of the series can learn some back story, and the lead-up to the DLC by reading The Sacrifice web-comic, released weekly from the L4D blog. But to find out what really happened to the dearly departed L4D Survivor, you have to wait until October 5.

A rare double-release, this piece of DLC is available for both L4D and L4Dw.  It will introduce what Valve is calling “Sacrificial Gameplay,’ which has the player decide who will die in order for the group to move on.  Harsh.  The DLC for both games is released in two separate downloads.  Those who download the DLC for L4D will get The Sacrifice campaign in addition to maps for the Versus and Survival Modes.  With the download, L4D players will be able to play with L4D2 special infected, items and weapons.  Not sure if this unlocks these items for the entire game or just The Sacrifice campaign.

However, fans who download the DLC for L4D2 will get The Sacrifice campaign and play as the original L4D survivors.  In addition to that, L4D2 owners will also recieve the No Mercy campaign.

As before with L4D DLC, Valve will be releasing both sets of DLC for free through Steam and for 560MSP on Xbox Live. That’s a pretty big win for PC owners, as this is a nice set of DLC.  Valve has been extremely generous with their fans who are PC owners–too bad for Xbox 360 owners though.

Will you be playing?  Which platform will you be playing on?  Who do you think should have kicked it?  Discuss this and more L4D in the forums!
