The Last of Us reveals two special editions

With May slowly drawing closer, Naughty Dog has now finally decided to release some information on the special editions that will be available for the financially blessed. Two packages are available to the customers in North America, simply titled “Post-pandemic edition” and “Survival Edition”.

The Survival Edition is pretty standard and comes with a Steelbook cover for the game, a hardcover artbook, DLC, stickers and it has a comic that serves as the special component for this edition. The DLC-pack features the soundtrack, a dynamic theme and PSN avatars. Again, not very amazing, but for 80 bucks it’ll be cheaper than getting the $40 artbook separately.

The Post-pandemic edition is an upgrade and will feature a 12 inch statue and some more DLC. The DLC itself will contain a number of multiplayer bonuses and some extra skins for the characters of Joel and Ellie. All the contents from the Survival Edition is also present in this package. This edition will only be available from Gamestop if you’re willing to trade it for $160.

Now I am sitting here and wondering: are there genuinely people who fork over that much money to have a statue of two characters they don’t even know yet? Surely such pricey and fancy packages would do a hell of a lot better for established IP. Maybe a bit of a presumptuous move on Naughty Dog’s part, but we won’t let it spoil the fun for us.

The Last of Us is still scheduled for release on May 7 2013.
