The Hum kickstarter campaign to be cancelled

In a post on its Kickstarter page last week, Ariel Arias from Thotwise Games shared some pretty sad news.

While he thanked everyone for their support, Arias stated that he felt the campaign to raise funds for The Hum would not be successful and would likely be cancelling the campaign this week (which would have been last week, but for what it’s worth, the campaign is still accepting backers).  The idea is ambitious and the game looked promising, but the campaign had raised only $10,081 out of its $250,000NZD goal.

The overalls cope of The Hum is huge.  Arias revealed that he had written a deep universe for the game, with stories spanning novels and comics and other books.  It’s extremely disappointing that the idea didn’t garner as much enthusiasm as he had for the project.  For some people it’s not just a few months or years that they’d been fostering an idea, but an entire lifetime.

Arias also revealed that his creativity was his refuge from a childhood that was rife with struggle, a struggle that continues to this day with physical ailments and pain.  It’s hard to do the story justice by just parroting it here – take a look for yourself.

For the time being, the Kickstarter campaign is still ongoing, and there’s no word right now if the game is being put on hold for now, or if it’s cancelled forever.  Arias has taken to The Hum Universe to showcase some of the material he’s written for The Hum.

I can’t help but feel a little down that good ideas get beaten out over some of the more eye-rollingly unoriginal ones.  Keep fighting the good fight, Arias!
