Suda 51′s Killer Is Dead’s debut trailer is wacky, unsurprisingly

KillerIsDeadAI

After teasing fans for what feels like years, Suda 51 and Grasshopper Manufacture have finally released a trailer for their upcoming Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 title Killer is Dead. With a gorgeous art style reminiscent of Killer 7, 3rd person brawling gameplay similar to that of No More Heroes and Lolipop Chainsaw, 3rd person shooting mechanics like Shadows of the Damned, and finally over the top and straight up wacky looking characters like… Well ALL of  Suda 51′s games! Killer is Dead almost gives of the impression that this game is the culmination of all Suda’s games from this console generation.

At the end of the trailer, a tentative release of “2013 Summer” flashes across the screen. One has to wonder, is this is just for the Japanese release of the game, or for North American regions as well? Either way, we couldn’t be more excited to see how this title turns out.

It’s like… a businessman with a MegaBuster and a Katana goes Afro Samurai on a bunch of robots. I love this game already.

Now I wonder if that’s the same protagonist from Silver Case and FSR (Sumio Kodai and Sumio Mondo, respectively). Anyone who played these games should be on alert mode after they revealed the MC name.

I wasn’t a no more heroes fan or killer 7. i really loved shadows of the damned and lollipop though. kinda disappointed he went back to that style but im sure fans of that will love it as its set in the same universe and those.

Yep. I’m a huge Suda fan , so i’m pretty sure i’ll love this one. Looks like the perfect mix of killer7 and NMH!!

Suda in my opinion doesn’t make that great of titles. They look cool and have great ideas and concepts but the gameplay in all of them suck. Regardless of what anyone says that should be the most important thing when making a game.

I disagree the gameplay in No More Heroes, especially the boss fights is outstanding.

I’m sorry but I played No More Heroes for both Wii and PS3, although it has a fun and quirky story with great characters, it is just plain annoying to play because of the constant sword charging and the on screen prompts for mini-game finishers. It completely takes me out of the gaming experience. Plus it’s too easy. Don’t even get me started on the actual mini-games that you do to earn money.

Sorry dude, i have o disagree. That’s merely subjective, and some (like you) may have much higher standards in that regard, but, at the end of the day, gameplay needs only to be serviceable. Athmosphere and concept are way more important in order to deliver a good and fresh experience, specially in todays industry which is flooded with generic crap like Call of Duty and Halo. Also, not every game needs to have Zelda-caliber gameplay to be good.

And FYI, Shadows of the Damned plays way better then the latest two Resident Evil. That’s a cientific fact :D

F THAT! If you playing a Zelda-like game then yea it should have Zelda-calibur gameplay (Ocarina came out in 97, I would hope developers can catch up by now). Something like Journey is where I can agree with you. Atmospheric, but no in depth game-play. However if i’m playing a game as an assassin I want to feel like an assassin I don’t want to have to play a game for hours on end with lacking gameplay. Suda is style over substance (but im really digging this style) so im really hoping for some substance this time around. Also what are you smoking, I know RE 5 was action and everyone hated it, but it handles miles better than SOD (RE 6 on the other hand…)

You got a good point. Developers should put equal effort on both gameplay and atmosphere. Sadly though, they seem to focus too much on graphics now.

I just rather have great atmosphere AND story then refined gameplay. As long as it’s playable, it’s fine to me. But hey, that’s just my opinion.
And, i didn’t liked RE5 that much, but then again, i’m not much on a RE fan anyway :D
