Screen Gems Picks Up Naughty Dog’s The Last Of Us

It’s official; The Last Of Us is becoming a Hollywood movie. But don’t fret, just yet! Naughty Dog employee and Creative Director on The Last Of Us, Neil Druckman, is writing the script! Now here’s hoping the script doesn’t get fenaggled into something it shouldn’t be.

Alongside him, Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra, Naughty Dog’s Co-Presidents, and Game Director Bruce Straley will be the “creative architects” on the film. They’re teaming up with Sam Raimi (of the classic Evil Dead trilogy and Spider-Man trilogy) and his production studio Ghost House Pictures.

Screen Gems president, Clint Culpepper, said this, “Screen Gems’ Brian Dukes and Eric Ling brought this game to my attention insisting we go after it, and when I saw the quality of the storytelling, I knew the audience for this project was far greater than just the gaming community and that Neil Druckmann must write the screenplay. I am thrilled that SCEA’s Riley Russell was able to get me in front of Neil and Evan Wells to plead my case. Sam and his team at Ghost House round out the perfect team to help realize Neil’s vision.”

Evan Wells called the team up of Screen Gems and Ghost House, “a perfect fit. Since our game released last June, we’ve talked with many companies about making a film, but we couldn’t have found better partners who share our creative vision and high standards.”

They synopsis so far tells us the film will focus on Joel and Ellie’s adventure in a world ravaged by an infectious pandemic twenty years since the apocalypse began.

No actors are confirmed yet, so who would you guys like to see portray these characters?
