RTS Meets Survival Horror in The Nullpoint, now on Kickstarter

Horror is no stranger to genre bending in film and video games, but have we seen our favorite nightmare medium marry the RTS genre? I don’t think we have, but that’s about to change. The Nullpoint is a new game on Kickstarter that aims to combine the two genres in a Sci-Fi setting. After an abandoned alien spacecraft is discovered, a exploration crew is sent to investigate. A expected, the results are less than cheery.

Players take control of up to five survivors at a time as they explore the alien structure. You’ll be tasked with surviving by scavenging for supplies and rationing resources. The world will be procedurally generated and in typical roguelike fashion, once a survivor dies, he or she is dead for good. Players will be able to build their own ship to store their resources and shelter themselves from the structure’s creatures between exploration rounds. Monsters range from lanky humanoids to gruesome amalgamations a la The Thing.

The Nullpoint looks like a neat little game, and if it meets its $135,000 Kickstarter goal, it will be available on PC and Mac in 2016. A prototype is available for download now.
