Resident Evil Creator Directing his Last Game

Shinji Mikami, the man who created Resident Evil has stated that Shadows of the Damned will be the last title that he directs.

In a recent interview with Famitsu, Mikami stated “I can only last for so long handling both director and company president duties [Mikami is the president of the newly formed studio Tango Game Words, which was recently acquired by Bethesda].  And besides, I want to give our younger developers a chance.  Knowing that of course, makes me want to put all of my experience, my energy and everything else I’ve got into this game.  I’m pretty lucky that Bethesda was able to accept that too.  Too many publishers are only interested in the very near future, after all.”

This might seem pretty alarmist, but it’s not all bad.  Mikami, as company president will still have some involvement in actual game development.  He currently serves as the creative producer on Grasshopper’s Shadows of the Damned.

First Akira Yamaoka, now Shinji Mikami.  Is it okay to cry?  Just a little?
