New Umbrella Corps Trailer Reveals Release Date, Maps

Capcom has released a new trailer today announcing that Umbrella Corps, its multiplayer shooter set in the Resident Evil universe, will release on PlayStation 4 and PC across North America and Europe in May 2016 for an MSRP of $29.99 / €29.99 / £24.99. The trailer shows off a new area which will be pretty familiar to the fans.

In today’s press release, Capcom has revealed a few details about the game. First, it will support up to six players geared towards competitive battles. There is also a single player mode of sorts, titled “The Experiment”, which challenges players to “hone their skills as they familiarize themselves with the world of Umbrella Corps in more than 20 missions with varying objectives”, as well as a horde mode.

Umbrella Corps will feature adrenaline-fueled matches in familiar locales from various Resident Evil games. In addition to the previously announced Umbrella Laboratory map, players will be able to experience areas inspired by Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5. The famed Village from RE4 has been retooled for heated multiplayer matches that escalate to the rooftops while the Tricell organization from RE5 has a newly imagined HQ to explore. Players must not only face off against the rival mercenary team, but also the stage-specific threats such as the crazed Ganados (RE4) and blood-thirsty Cerberus dogs (RE5). More information on additional maps and modes are still to come.

It looks as though it couldn’t be further from what I enjoyed about Resident Evil, amounting to merely being a shooter with some Resident Evil maps, but Jorge enjoyed himself, so there could be hope yet. Maybe.

Capcom I don’t care if you’ll give us maps of RE1-CVX I’m not buying an action based always online Resident Evil at this rate you should just make a new Resident Evil Mercenaries if you’re not going to port over the 3DS game and admittedly the engine this game is running on doesn’t make the past environments look bad but you know what I can play RE4 and 5 offline and get a much better experience. Umbrella Corps is dead on arrival to me might as well call it Umbrella Corpse.

Okay, this trailer has made me completely confused. According to the developers, it’s completely canon and takes place in 2015. Still, it includes settings such as “the village”, Kijuju and a Tricell building. None of these should exist anymore. And I swear that was Albert’s voice at the end. He should be dead. Recording?

Oh, and apparently the zombie jammer also works on ganados. Weird.

It was Wesker’s. Also when did the say it was or change it to be cannon?

        http://www.gamespot.com/articles/where-does-umbrella-corps-fit-in-the-resident-evil/1100-6430745/

“The game is not a hypothetical, “what-if” side scenario. Umbrella Corps
is set in the present day of Resident Evil, which means it’s after the
        events of Resident Evil 6.”

        • BioDevil_Dom

Interesting, but the issue is now that it’s cannon what parts of it are and aren’t cannon? A lot of this stuff seems to conflict with the cannon since they’re saying it’s after RE6. For example Kijuju was later revealed to have been sent a cure in Revelations 2 so why would they go back there now?

          • MassDistraction

Who said only parts of it are canon? From their statements I take it’s fully canon. They clearly seperated its status in the canon from what Operation Raccoon City was. It takes place 2015, specifically. As for how the village and Kijuju fit in the lore at this point… It’s anyone’s guess.

          • BioDevil_Dom

Well yeah that what I mean it just seems like the village and Kijuju given when this game takes place conflicts with it. Unless these maps are just throw back maps I don’t see how it would work.

          • MassDistraction

On a forum I go to one person also said that maybe they are just throwback maps, which would make sense, I guess. Still though, if the game has no story and the conflicts are canon, wouldn’t that make the village and Kijuju conflicts also canon? It’s all very confusing. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see how this plays out.

        • MassDistraction

I think what that later statement meant was mostly that it really doesn’t matter even if the game is canon since it hardly has any story to it.

    • Peter Anderson

Um, I’m not even really sure what to make of this jumbled up mess. It’s sad that Resident Evil has sold out. To be honest, this is just crap.

    • Xuchilpaba

At this point does it really matter if it’s canonical or not. I mean look at the game!

      • MassDistraction

If it adds to the lore, yes. At least I still care about the story.

  • Nicola Polito

The maps like the RE4 Village and RE5 Public Assembly teased at the end are part of the simulation in Umbrella Corps, that’s the logical explanation to why there is the RE4 Village and RE5 Public Assembly teased at the end.

    • BioDevil_Dom

On the game’s official website it says that there were villagers that broke into the quarantine zone.

  • Brodequin

    Wait a minute… Unity???

  • EvilResident

I’d buy this if it had recreated settings from RE1-CVX, but… Probably not even then. I’m just not interested. This is coming from someone who really enjoyed ORC.

    • Xuchilpaba

They had used RE1-CVX places for chronicles games though.

    • MassDistraction

Gosh, I hope not. This game being canon is already a total mess so being able to go back to those settings would make it even more messed up.
