Capcom to Release More Resident Evil

According to a report from Nikkei’s web edition, translated by Andriasang.com,  Capcom is seeking to recoup from declining sales by increasing the amount of games in the Resident Evil franchise.

How exactly do they plan on doing this?  Well, how does any company effectively put out more of anything without risking profits?  Outsourcing.  Yes, apparently it happens in the video game development world as well.  The site states that Capcom aims to increase output from the current two-titles per year to three or four titles per year.  While RoH is all for Resident Evil titles, as I’m sure many fans are, what we’re really hoping for is ‘quality’ over ‘quantity.’

The company hopes that they can reduce the development time for new games from four years to between two and three years.  While in theory this sounds like an incredible idea, only time will tell if Capcom puts out quality Resident Evil titles, and not…shovelware *shudders*

Capcom plans on outsourcing a lot of its production to North American and European studios.  It states that it plans on doing this for more of its popular series, but I think it’s fair to say that the Resident Evil franchise is going to be around for a long time.

As you said this could either be a very good thing or a very bad thing. Time will tell if this is good or bad though. While no one likes waiting over half a century for the next Resident Evil game to come out rather wait and the title be amazing than for it to come sooner and be less of what it could of been.

I heard about this at Gamasutra.
Only time will tell if the new games will be good . . . However, a lot of the major Survival-Horror games (Alan Wake, Dead Space, Cursed Mountain, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, etc) come from the West.

There is bound to be a few hiccups but I’d take that over having the latest RE 4 reskin.

Lets just hope that these will be “actual” Resident Evil games meaning “survival horror” games (complete with zombies) instead of the dummed down once like RE4 and RE5….

They are NOT Resident Evil games just because you call it resident evil and you put caracters from the original games in it. And just to top things of you all but remove everything that made them great Suvival horror games and make they into “Action Adventure” games….

Personally, I hope we wont be waiting another four years (give or take) for Resident Evil 6.

I’ve enjoyed all the games in the series so far, Resident Evil 4 was a great game, Capcom succeeded in making Resident Evil 4 feel fresh and new, but the survival horror experience was slightly lacking for me (still a great game though).

I then spent four years anticipating Resident Evil 5 and hoped that the spark lost in four would find it’s way back into the series for the fifth installment, unfortunately for me, it was quite a big step down from four in terms of survival horror, which irked me. Yes I still enjoyed the game but the Resident Evil experience was hardly anywhere to be found in part five. (for me)

My main worry is another 4-5 year wait for Resi 6, if the series takes another step down I wont be able to call it Resident Evil anymore (insert random generic shooter name here).

Fingers crossed RE 6 will be worth the wait, at least i’ve had some good times with L4D, Dead Space and Alan Wake.

More RE games could be good, as long as it’s not gonna be….

Resident Evil: The Trading Card Game
    Resident Evil: Zombie Beach Volleyball
Resident Evil: Wesker’s Hole in one golfing
    etc etc
