Resident Evil 4 PC not in digital stores, probably never will be

I’ve gone into detail before about the PC port of Resident Evil 4.  To put it frankly – it just sucks.  It’s actually quite widely believed that it sucks, too.  No out of the box mouse support, terrible textures, all in all it just wasn’t what it could be.

Capcom seems to think so too.

Over at the Capcom Unity boards, the question was posed by a fan of why we don’t see Resident Evil 4 available for direct download through any of the major online retailers.  Senior VP Christian Svensson had this to say.

Sorry, but there’s enough people at Capcom who aren’t happy with that version and would prefer it not be in the digital marketplace.

I don’t want to be the one to say it but…c’mon – you know it’s bad when Capcom themselves don’t even want to make any more money on it.

Have you played the PC version?  What do you think of it?

Well I own the pc version and its fun for one reason. Modding. I replaced Ada with Jill RE3 remake for mercenaries, I replaced all the villagers with zombies, and claire from darkside chronicles is in the main game. You can do some neat things with it. Also I believe the textures and models were patched in a later version.

When its modded its awesome , but still someone needs to figure out how in game cutscenes work , then all we need to do is repack ones with HD Textures , effects , items , players , models , enemies , HUD …. and In-Game Cutscenes “if happened” ….

if we can do that ^ Capcom sure can , They can release an Updated Version why not ? Port the WII version just how they did with PS3/360 , But they were too lazy to update anything ; including textures …. Really Crappy “Not soo HD” Port , the problem is capcom their self’s ….

I actually played RE 4 in PC and beat it all, unlocked everything.
And of course modded the textures and some other useful stuff, and I did enjoy the game a lot even if it had no mouse support, it still is one of my fav RE’s.

It’s kinda funny how I’ve downloaded all numbered RE games to my PC lol. I just need 0 but I dont have a Nintendo console. :/

Initial PC port is quite crappy, yes. But modding community has done wonders to it – there’re several patches that fix every broken aspect of PC port – crappy controls (added mouse support), poor-quality FMVs (HD FMVs released as separate patch), 2 major texture packs, which upgrade textures to Gamecube level or even better. Also, there are a couple of really nice graphical updates, which add bloom, motion blur, DoF, ambient occlusion etc.
