New Rainbow Six Siege Game Mode Offers A Cosmic Horror Spin

Rainbow Six Siege

What is the first thing that springs to mind when you think about Rainbow Six Siege? Is it aliens? Prior to this latest announcement, that would be a strange association. But this is 2018, and the world is becoming a strange place.

Ubisoft has revealed further details about the upcoming Outbreak event, which will mark the beginning of Rainbox Six Siege’s third year. Ubisoft previously released a trailer that showed off very little, but set up the atmosphere of the game mode. Outbreak is a free co-op event that will pit a team of three Operators against a parasite which has caused a wave of violence in a small town.

One interesting aspect of Outbreak is that all of the operators will not be available for the game mode. From the selection available, it seems as though they chose to include operators that provide conventional attack or defense roles.; don’t expect Valkyrie’s cameras to help against an alien entity.

The latest announcement also provided further details about what types of enemies operators will be facing in Outbreak. The parasite enemies seem to be very interesting, taking advantage of the destructive and fluid gameplay in Rainbow Six Siege. Some enemies require stealth in order to defeat, while others will use abilities to destroy reinforced walls.

The fact that Rainbow Six Siege is adding a cosmic-horror inspired game mode is fascinating. Whether it will work is yet to be seen, but the deep attention to how the parasites work within the framework of Rainbow Six Siege is very promising.
