Guillermo del Toro breaks the silence on inSANE

It’s been a very long time since we’ve heard anything new regarding Guillermo del Toro’s debut video game, inSANE. Announced last year at Spike’s VGAs, inSANE is already being set up as a franchise by THQ, being developed by Volition– of Saint’s Row fame. Since the big reveal that del Toro would be breaking into video games things have been quiet. Really quiet. Until now, that is.

The acclaimed director recently sat down with MTV’s Multiplayer and spoke a bit more on the project. Gameplay-wise, we now know inSANE will be a sandbox title, with del toro stating that he and his team have “designed all the architecture already.” Then, going to something a lot of del Toro fans are quite fond of, he touches on the creature design stating that it’ll be obscenely fun and unique.” And speaking of creature design, Guy Davis and Francisco Ruis Velasco will be working on the game’s design which del Toto explains as being “Lovecraftian”:

“It’s Lovecraftian, it’s really weird, but it’s Lovecraftian in a very sick way, which I like. It’s truely, truely entertaining. Full of action, but also a very shocking game. And Guy Davis and Francisco [Ruis Velasco]. Guy Davis, to me, is one of the best monster designers alive right now.”

Don’t hold your breath, though. inSANE is still ways away from its intended 2013 launch as del Toro suggests while also covering his recent experience with game development:

“We’ve been working for a year. We have two or three more years to go. It’s huge. I’m learning a lot. I’m going in with a really, really modest ‘I’m learning’ approach. I’m a huge gamer but going into constructing it, you have to be respectful of the medium. I’m learning a lot…”
