Latest DayZ update adds new island, anti-cheat measures

The latest DayZ Standalone update (version 0.53.126384) has launched on stable servers. Adding a variety of tweaks, changes, and additions, the latest update to the game is pretty darn big and important.

For starters, Bohemia has instituted new anti-cheat measures to combat the rampant number of script kiddies going out and spending money to acquire advantages to the game (such as teleporting, controlling players, and spawning gear). There’s no word yet on how many cheaters will be stricken with the mighty ban hammer of Thor (hopefully a lot), but it’s good to know that Bohemia is going to be cracking down on these losers. If I sound bitter, it’s because I’m an avid player and these jerks plain suck.

As for additions to the game, a new prison island and changes to the existing Skalisty Island can be found, adding new environments to explore. A new town has also been added to the north of the map. Changes to the number of vehicles per map has been increased from 5 to 15, now making use of server persistence which will allow players to return to hidden vehicles after a server restart.

New animations, crafting mechanics, and sounds can be expected as well from version 0.53. Check out the full changelog at the source.
