Here’s Some Metal Gear Survive Gameplay to Evaluate

Konami’s already-controversial Metal Gear Survive now has gameplay out in the wild for fans of the series to view. Based on the Youtube like to dislike ratio and comments, they’re not happy.

The TGS gameplay video shows how a four-player co-op mission will play out. The unlucky Mother Base soldier who got wrapped up into the game’s alternate zombie-filled dimension must survive at all costs. You and some friends will have to gather resources in the form of fallen enemy creatures, raw materials and animals. In the video, we can see that the survival elements have been ramped up some from MGSV, by re-introducing limb damage that must be tended and adding blockade building. Melee weapons and attacks are also new, but all in all the gameplay of Metal Gear Survive doesn’t look all that interesting. Not awful, just meh.

For many, Metal Gear Survive is not the FOX Engine-powered survival horror game anticipated from Konami. This first gameplay reveal is fairly comprehensive, showing a variety of mechanics at play, but I’m going to have to see more before my initial opposition to the premise is turned around.

Metal Gear Survive releases on Xbox One, PS4, and PC in 2017 as a standalone game.
