Hellblade Sells More Than 500K In Three Months, Turns Profit For Developer Ninja Theory
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is undeniably one of the best horror games of 2017, blending impressive graphics and cinematic storytelling to create a unique take on psychosis. But as a mid-tier game offering only a handful of hours of content, many in the industry weren’t sure how well it would perform sales-wise during a busy holiday release season.
Thankfully, developer Ninja Theory recently announced that not only has Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice sold more than 500,000 copies since August, becoming profitable in the process, but that it also exceeded their initial sales estimates for those figures by about three months. They’ve detailed the sales, as well as their launch process in a developer diary you can view below.
This is a huge win for mid-tier independent development, and proves that there is a place in the market for well-crafted bite-sized experiences that don’t need loot boxes or season passes. Hopefully Ninja Theory can continue blazing this same independent trail for the time being, and others will soon follow.
