The Evil Within 2 Gets an Official First-Person Mode
Today an official update for The Evil Within 2 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC will drop that adds an option to play the game entirely in first-person, making the horror up close and personal.
First-person can be enabled at any time from the game’s settings, and the option is also available in the game’s free trial. You might recall that shortly after launch, modders found out how to enable first-person play by tinkering with the in-game console in the PC version. By adding adding one single command, the perspective switched to a very playable, though imperfect, first-person mode.
“A lot of players like playing horror games in first-person, so for those who want to see some of the game’s situations through Sebastian’s eyes, it’s a really neat experience,” said Tango Gameworks’ producer, Shinsaku Ohara. “I think exploring Union in first-person makes the scale feel even bigger than it does when you’re in third-person. Also, being able to see our environments and enemies up close allows players to get an even better look at how much effort went into their designs.”
A new trailer for the mode is available as well (see below). It’s cool to see Tango Gameworks tweak the game to add this option, and I hope this isn’t the last we wear of post-release support for the game. We need some proper story DLC!
