Capcom plans for Ninja Theory’s DMC to sit “above DMC3 for this generation”

The current Devil May Cry predicament is an interesting one. On one hand we have Capcom tasking Ninja Theory with the devlopment of the upcoming fifth title in the series, DMC. On the other hand you have Hollywood ready to sink their blood thirsty fangs into the franchise, with a film already being in it’s primal stages. Both of these recent scenarios have fans a bit worried about where Dante and (demonic) friends will be going, in terms of quality. Arguably, Devil May Cry 3 is held by some as the pinnacle of the franchise, a suggestion to which a Capcom representative on their forums says:

“Lets be honest they were great games (averageing in the low 80’s on metacritic) but not perfect. We’re now aiming to make the perfect DMC game that gets 90’s”

He has a point, Capcom’s demon-slaying franchise still isn’t as big as (quality-wise) it’s father franchise Resident Evil, but it surely has potential to expand and deliver sequences of top-quality titles. And there’s no denying the fact that Dante is already an iconic character, he just needs the games to complement that personal accolade. So what about the upcoming prequel/reboot DMC? Well, this Capcom rep had something to say about that, too, even tying it back to the aforementioned Devil May Cry 3:

“But we haven’t handed over the family silver to some strangers we are working with Ninja Theory on this together. We believe that by going down this route we can breathe new life into the franchise and make a game that sits above DMC3 for this generation.”

That’s a bold remark, and honestly, this editor seems to think that the Heavenly Sword/ Enslaved developer will in fact do just that. But then again, I’m just one person facing hordes of fans still bitter over Dante’s altered aesthetics…
