Asylum gets a playable teaser

Anyone remember Asylum? It’s an upcoming horror adventure game from Senscape, lead by Agustín Cordes, the designer of Scratches. It was announced back in 2010 and has been delayed numerous times. Updates on the game’s status have generally been quiet, but Senscape has now released an interactive teaser. The game itself is currently set to release in 2013.

This teaser acts as a small, limited demo. You can grab it from their website and play it now. And I recommend that you do so. It showcases the general idea of its gameplay and disturbing atmosphere. Despite its short length, one of its scares honestly got to me.

Another aspect of Asylum that I feel is worth mentioning is its engine. The fittingly named “Dagon” engine is being built as an open source development kit for adventure games. This could lead to even more interesting projects in the future. You can find more about this over on their forums.

Overall, it may seem like a Cliché setup, but Scratches came off the same way as well. Hopefully Asylum will prove to have some equally clever twists as the game progresses. I’ll be watching for more information.

Downloaded the demo but haven’t had time to look at it properly yet. Looking forwards to the full game anyway.

Look around in the .CFG file to change the settings up. And what kind of hardware are you running?

What I’ve played seems good, but I can’t find the key! I’m fairly inexperienced at point-and-click adventure games, so I daresay it’s due to my stupidity. I also find myself wondering if it would be better to have the pointer stick to the centre of the screen and use the mouse to move the whole camera around, rather than having to drag the camera with the pointer.

Seems good though, so as I said, I think the full game should be worth a look.

Yeah. There is actually an option in the config file to have the cursor centered. It’s kind of clunky at the moment, but apparently it’s still being worked on. As for the key, it’s in the middle of the infirmary. You can press the space bar to see interactive hotspots in the area.

Thanks for the help. Sorry I haven’t come back sooner, but I actually found the key myself, pretty much by accident.

Yeah just got done playing the teaser seems pretty good overall all i can say certain sounds are heard way too strong (footsteps) and transition speed should be increased much more for more fluid gameplay. I also thought some of the lights seemed extremely too bright even in low gamma ,but the horror in this game seems great. i cant wait to see the final show

Been looking forward to this for a while… They really need to change transition speed and looking speed though. The athmosphere and voice acting seemed really great though, will definetly get this.
