After ‘Shadows Of The Damned’ Another Suda 51/Mikami Collaboration Is “Definitely Going To Happen”

This June’s release of Shadows of the Damned will mark the result of a very praised trinity of minds. You have Shinji Mikami who is best known for being the father of Resident Evil, you have Suda 51 best known for his over-the-top style seen in Killer 7 and the No More Heroes titles and then lastly you have Akira Yamaoka who is cherished for his work on Silent Hill’s classic aural brilliance. These three talented minds got together and will be giving us Shadows of the Damned, published by EA, on June 21st for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. But what happens after that?

According to Akira Yamaoka, representing Grasshopper, a collaboration between himself, Mikami and Suda 51 is “definitely going to happen again”. He then dropped an implication that they are currently looking into another project that will come straight out of the East: “It’s going to be a new collaboration, but this time it’ll be a collaboration in the east only…”. He then goes on to state that he would also love the collaboration to take them into a partnership with a Western developer:

“In the future I really want to see Mikami-san, Suda 51 and myself working together with some western game creators to form a new team. I believe that will be a true east meets west and I want to see that happen. That is what is necessary for the global game market.”- Akira Yamaoki

Currently we’re seeing a West/East partnership behind the upcoming DMC title and Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, both of them titles representing Capcom franchises being developed by Ninja Theory and Slant Six, respectively. Now, Suda, Yamaoko and Mikami are aiming for a similar approach by joining forces with an Eastern-based developer. There’s been much controversy over the issue, though, with fans of certain franchises crying foul over publishers handing over development duties to outside developers. But we’ll just have to see how this eventually turns out for ourselves, at least we have some brilliant minds already in place.
