Resident Evil was released in March 22nd 1996 for Sony PlayStation. It created a new genre called “Survival-Horror”, or lets say Capcom advanced this genre and made it popular and lucrative for other game companies.
Resident Evil wasn’t the first game with horror elements. People keep forgetting that games like “Sweet Home” or “Alone in the Dark” actually were responsible for the Survival Horror genre. Resident Evil though made it popular worldwide while the classics couldn’t reach the huge popularity of Resident Evil.
Resident Evil even is one of the best selling PlayStation games ever, so this was just the beginning of a huge franchise coming after you. In March 2004, the RE franchise will be lasting for 8 years!
